core, State Voices champions the enhancement of democracy by
leveraging collective impact principles, providing critical data
analysis, and sharing resources to uplift the voices of
marginalized communities. With a robust infrastructure that
includes 25 state tables and over 1,200 partner organizations,
State Voices is committed to nurturing a vibrant democracy viewed
through a racial equity lens, encompassing initiatives in Civic
Engagement, Civic Access, and Civic Representation to ensure
comprehensive community mobilization and representation.Embedded in
the organization's mission is the unwavering commitment to
dismantling systemic disenfranchisement affecting diverse
communities, including Black, Indigenous, Latinx, AAPI, LGBTQ
individuals, women, the youth, and low-income groups. State Voices
operates through two distinct entities, a 501(c)3 nonprofit and a
501(c)4 corporation, collectively managing a budget of $25 million
to advocate for a more accessible, inclusive, and representative
democratic process. This concerted effort underscores the

Staff Role The Chief of Staff at State Voices is a multifaceted
role, combining the functions of an advisor, strategist,
coordinator, and supporter of our core values and culture. This
pivotal position supports our leadership, including the President
and CEO, in making strategic decisions, executing plans, and
effectively using resources. The Chief of Staff plays a key role in
keeping our projects on track, ensuring clear communication across
different departments, and upholding our commitment to our mission
and values.We're looking for a dynamic leader with a knack for
problem-solving, strategic thinking, and building strong
relationships. The ideal candidate has a background in non-profit
management, with a track record of advising senior leaders and
facilitating teamwork across various groups. This role demands the
ability to influence without direct authority, remain calm under
pressure, juggle multiple priorities, and work effectively with

impact.Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Management
- Executive Support and Strategy Alignment: Manage the
President's daily activities and strategic engagements, ensuring
alignment with State Voices' goals. Oversee the President's
calendar to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strategic Initiatives & Planning: Collaborate with leadership
to develop and implement strategic plans, ensuring decision-making
processes are inclusive and objectives are met
efficiently.Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
- Stakeholder Prioritization: Assess and prioritize the needs of
various stakeholders, including staff, directors, donors, and
partners, to focus efforts where they are most needed.
- Effective Communication: Serve as the primary liaison between
the President, CEO, and all internal and external parties,
facilitating open channels for feedback and collaboration. Prepare
and present reports that offer insightful data for
decision-making.Project Coordination & Execution:
- Project Management: Lead cross-functional projects,
coordinating with departments to utilize resources effectively and
achieve project goals on time.
- Operational Coordination: Manage and guide strategic
initiatives, tracking progress and ensuring projects align with the
organization's objectives.Meeting & Event Preparation:
- Preparation and Representation: Organize materials and agendas
for high-level meetings and board sessions, ensuring the President
is well-prepared for all engagements. Represent the leadership at
key external meetings and events.
- Represent the President and CEO at in-person meetings and
external events with funders, board members, public officials, and
other partners.Organizational Culture & Values:
- Mission and Values Advocacy: Promote and embody the core values
and mission of State Voices, integrating principles of equity,
inclusion, and belonging into all organizational
practices.QualificationsEducational Background & Experience:
- Core Requirements: A bachelor's degree is preferred,
complemented by a minimum of ten years of relevant experience in
the non-profit sector, particularly in roles involving senior staff
management within advocacy organizations, campaigns, or community
groups.Leadership & Strategic Planning:
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated excellence in leadership roles,
specifically in civic engagement, non-profit capacity building, and
collaborative projects.
- Strategic Planning: A proven track record in developing and
executing strategic plans effectively.Communication & Project
Management:
- Communication Proficiency: Outstanding verbal and written
communication skills, essential for managing projects and fostering
strong relationships.
- Project Management Expertise: Exceptional ability to manage
multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ensuring
projects are delivered efficiently.Problem-Solving & Interpersonal
Skills:
- Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills, coupled
with the capacity to make well-informed decisions quickly.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent facilitation, negotiation, and
interpersonal skills, crucial for working effectively across
diverse communities.Commitment & Integrity:

experiences.Additional Requirements:
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel as needed for the
role. Compensation: $190,000-$205,000 depending on experience and
