Job Description:
At eBay, we're more than a global ecommerce leader — we’re
changing the way the world shops and sells. Our platform empowers
millions of buyers and sellers in more than 190 markets around the
world. We’re committed to pushing boundaries and leaving our mark
as we reinvent the future of ecommerce for enthusiasts. Our
customers are our compass, authenticity thrives, bold ideas are
welcome, and everyone can bring their unique selves to work — every
day. We're in this together, sustaining the future of our
customers, our company, and our planet. Join a team of passionate
thinkers, innovators, and dreamers — and help us connect people and
build communities to create economic opportunity for all. Privacy
is not a box-checking exercise at eBay — it’s a competitive
advantage and a commitment to the millions of people who trust our
platform every day. As Senior Director, Global Head of Privacy
Advisory, you will lead a world-class global privacy advisory
function and the leader of a talented, globally-distributed team of
privacy professionals. This is a high-impact, high-visibility
leadership role at the intersection of law, product, technology,
and trust. You will set the strategic direction for how eBay
approaches privacy across its global marketplace, marketplace
services, and payments infrastructure— advising at the most senior
levels of the company and managing a talented team of privacy legal
professionals while embedding the effective use of AI to scale
impact, enhance decision-making, and drive operational excellence.
What You'll Do Global Privacy Strategy Lead and refine eBay's
global privacy advisory strategy, establishing a cohesive global
framework that is principled, practical, and business-enabling.
Develop a clear, risk-calibrated approach to advising on product
launches, new data uses, and new business expansion. Drive clarity
and alignment across the organization on global privacy
obligations, translating regulatory complexity into actionable
business guidance. Product & Business Advisory Counsel Product,
Engineering, Payments, Employment and other legal team members on
complex privacy issues, acting as a strategic partner, not just a
legal reviewer. Continue to implement privacy-by-design across the
full product lifecycle, from concept and design through launch and
post-market monitoring. Advise on the privacy dimensions of
advertising technology, personalization, and emerging technologies.
Provide timely, practical, and risk-calibrated advice to business
stakeholders, enabling eBay to move quickly while managing privacy
risk intelligently. Regulatory Strategy, Investigations & External
Engagement Coordinate with jurisdictional leads to drive strategy
for privacy regulatory inquiries, investigations, and enforcement
actions across jurisdictions, working directly with regulators and
coordinating cross-functional response teams. Monitor global
privacy developments and advise senior leadership on implications
for product strategy, business operations, and enterprise risk.
Develop and maintain eBay's regulatory engagement strategy,
including proactive outreach and relationship-building with data
protection authorities globally. Partner with eBay’s Government
Relations team to interpret and shape the evolving regulatory
landscape — tracking prospective legislation, informing advocacy
positions, and representing eBay’s interests with industry groups
and standards bodies. Team Leadership & Culture Lead, develop, and
inspire a globally distributed team of privacy lawyers, setting
clear priorities, coaching sound judgment, and building strong
cross-functional partnership skills. Champion privacy as a value
across eBay's broader legal organization and the business, helping
to embed privacy-conscious thinking at every level. Drive adoption
of AI across the team to improve productivity, communication, and
insight generation, ensuring tools are used to augment legal
judgment and effectiveness. Develop and deliver privacy training
and awareness programs for legal and business partners across
technical and non-technical functions, ensuring the organization
stays current on evolving obligations and best practices. Champion
a high-trust, high-accountability culture that balances rigorous
legal analysis with pragmatic problem-solving and product velocity.
What We're Looking For You Bring J.D. or equivalent legal degree;
active membership in at least one U.S. state bar. 15 years of legal
experience, with at least 10 years dedicated to privacy and data
protection, including global or multi-regional program leadership.
Demonstrated experience in a privacy legal leadership role at a
multinational technology company, global marketplace, or similarly
complex regulated environment, with responsibility for global or
multi-regional program leadership and a team. Deep expertise in
major privacy regimes across the U.S., EU/UK, and other key
international markets; proven track record managing regulatory
relationships and enforcement matters. Experience using AI-powered
productivity tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini, Glean) to enhance
workflow efficiency, communication, and overall effectiveness.
